Keep It Simple — Stay Healthy!
Staying healthy during these trying times is top-of-mind for everyone. The Capital Direct family hopes that you and your family are being safe and staying healthy.
Daily updates have been inundating our various news feeds about the pandemic. COVID-19 is front-page news almost every day. It's in our social media feeds, and even our email boxes. We wanted to share some common-sense tips for staying healthy. It's important to keep these strategies for ending this pandemic front and centre.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO)
COVID-19
this disease is an infectious disease. It causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. They go on to say this about how it spreads:
“Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.”
Basic Protective Measures
Based on this understanding of how the virus spreads, here are some common-sense tips and basic protective measures to help you stay safe against this coronavirus.
Wash hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands. Wash
them with soap and water or use an alcohol-based
hand rub to kill viruses that may be on your hands.
Don't touch eyes, nose & mouth
If you're washing your hands regularly you're going
to be safer, but hands touch many surfaces and
can pick up viruses.
Your hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
Practice respiratory hygiene
This is basically good manners, but always cover your mouth and nose
with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then
dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Remember that droplets spread viruses. By following this basic best
practice, you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold,
flu and COVID-19.
Social Distancing
Probably one of the most important measures you, as a citizen, a
neighbour, and a fellow human being can take is to stay home as much
as possible. If going out, practice the 2-metre distancing rule, avoid
crowds, and wear a mask if you have one. Help keep those most at
risk healthy, such as our elderly loved ones and friends, and offer help
with grocery shopping or other daily activities that they are restricted
from doing.
We all have to do our part to help bring an end to this crisis. If we all practice these basic and common-sense steps, we can stay safe, keep our families and communities healthy, and return to our normal routines sooner than later.
From all of us at Capital Direct, we hope you stay healthy!
