The Right Foot
Getting off on the right foot is a worthwhile endeavor — especially after the year we’ve all just come through. Maybe you've already started to lay plans for the new year? Or maybe you’ve been thinking about it? No matter what stage you might be at, here’s some useful tips to help you with the process.
It’s not set in stone
It’s critical to keep in mind that plans will
undoubtedly change throughout the year — they’re
not set in stone.
Define your priorities
Start with one area that you’d like to focus on.
Obvious examples of this are health & fitness, or
finances. List your priorities with pen and paper and
rank them in order of importance. This helps to
establish what’s most important to you right now.
Schedule, schedule, schedule
Get it in the calendar. This is key to getting off on
the right foot. Consider what essential
commitments you’ve already made. It’s also
important to factor in holidays, birthdays, and other
events — like pro-d days.
Once you have your schedule “pencilled in” you’ll have a better idea of what kinds of projects and goals for the year will be realistic.
The WHY
This step can be considered optional, but finding the “Why” behind
your goals can be powerful. The “Why” will help you determine what is
actually a priority. If it is a priority, the “Why” will help you stay
focused, and motivated.
Be realistic
Audacious goals can lead to frustration more often than not. If they’re
too small, then you might have a hard time developing sincere passion
to actually pursue them. A good goal is one that feels like it just might
be out of reach, but not unrealistic to achieve.
Don’t forget that you need to set some check-ins. At the very least, at the mid-year point, or even better, quarterly. Is there anything you need to change? Check-ins help to make sure you’re on track.
Exercise grace
Being too hard on yourself can ultimately lead to you abandoning the
whole plan. All kinds of stuff is going to happen this year. Some of it will
be completely unforeseen — just look at where you were a year ago.
Planning for 2021 is a smart
decision and it will help you get
closer to achieving your goals.
We hope that this year
will be a remarkable
year for you!
