Preparing for Success

According to some research, late spring and early summer are the best times of year to put your home up for sale. Maybe your situation has changed and you need to relocate for work. Or, maybe you’ve decided it’s time to finally buy that dream property. Nonetheless, if you’re thinking about listing your home, here are 3 tips that can help you to improve the value of your home before starting the process of selling.

Improving your home value—tip 1
Are there some “low hanging fruit” opportunities to improve your home’s interior? Hiring a professional interior designer could result in some great suggestions for improvements. Even a change of colour and a fresh coat of paint can serve to improve the overall look and feel of your home to prospective buyers.

Improving your home value—tip 2
When it comes to home inspections, hiring a professional is one area you shouldn’t cut corners on. A home inspection can discover problems you might not have even thought to look for, but could negatively impact your home's value.

Improving your home value—tip 3
Are there improvements that you can make that will benefit the energy efficiency of your home? Saving money on your energy costs not only saves you money now, but it can make your home more marketable in the long run.

Home improvements can help you increase the value of your property and sell your home for the amount that you desire.

Connecting with Nature

For most Canadians, being outside is part of what makes us Canadian! Canada is the second-largest country in the world—an astonishing 9.1 million square kilometres. Almost all of this vast space is natural! Even our cities go to great lengths to ensure they protect and foster green spaces for their citizens.

In our last issue of balance we shared an article, Summer Fun Ideas, and encouraged you to get outside. We curated a list of activities for you and the family to do outside.

While summer vacations might be wrapping up, and kids are going back to school, summer isn’t over yet! September is a great month to keep getting outside. So, in the spirit of connecting with nature, here's another fun activity that is great for getting outdoors in September.

Frog Watch
Frogs and toads are an important part of local biodiversity. If you live near a lake, or even a local park that has a pond, then this outdoor activity is great for you.

  • Start by looking in still waters—shorelines are ideal
  • Look in shading parts of a pond—avoid the areas with full sunlight

One of the best ways to find frogs is to listen for them! This is a great activity to do after dinner, just around dusk—this is when most frogs will start to croak.

Health & Wellness

Lunch times are a great opportunity to ensure we’re getting the nutrients we need to keep energy high during the rest of the day. Here are the three essential components to include in every lunch:

Lean Proteins
Build your lunch around a source of protein and keep yourself feeling satisfied in two different ways.
Fibre
High-fibre foods are essential for sustained energy.
Hydration
If you aren’t drinking enough water during the day, it may cause you to feel tired and increase brain fog.
  1. Protein takes longer to eat and longer for your body to digest—lean protein will keep you feeling full longer

  2. Protein also often contains energizing nutrients like B vitamins, zinc, and iron.
  1. It is similar to protein in that it takes longer for your body to digest—Fibre will keep you feeling full longer

  2. Fibre also improves digestion, and helps lower cholesterol levels
  1. Water is still your best choice—drinking enough of it helps keep mood and fatigue levels stable

  2. Try skipping sugar-filled sodas—try flavored water, or a diet soda instead

A balanced lunch will satisfy your hunger and keep you feeling full and energized through the late afternoon.
