Breathe Easy This Fall

Now that summer is winding down and we’re all starting to spend more time indoors, it’s the perfect time to think about the air we’re breathing inside our homes. Creating a healthy indoor environment is key to staying comfortable, reducing stress, and keeping those fall allergies at bay. Here are a few simple tips to help you freshen up your home’s air quality:

Did you know houseplants can naturally purify the air? Adding a few green friends like spider plants, peace lilies, or snake plants can help filter out toxins, boost oxygen levels, and add some greenery to your space. Not only do they look great, but they also contribute to a healthier environment by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.

Ever thought about your air filters? If you haven’t changed them recently, now’s the time! Dirty filters can recirculate dust, pet dander, and allergens, affecting your air quality and even your health. Set a reminder to replace them every 3 months for cleaner, crisper air that’s easier on your lungs.

Tip: Open windows on mild days to let in fresh air and reduce indoor pollutants. Just a few minutes can make a big difference, especially if you’ve been cooking, cleaning, or if your home tends to feel stuffy.

Do you love candles? Be careful—many scented candles release chemicals like formaldehyde into the air. Opt for soy or beeswax candles with natural fragrances to keep your home smelling sweet without the toxins. Or, try an essential oil diffuser for a natural, refreshing scent.

Fun fact: Carpets and rugs can trap dust, allergens, and even mold spores over time. Regular vacuuming (with a HEPA filter, if possible) can help keep those particles from floating around, improving air quality and reducing allergy symptoms.

With just a few small changes, you can make your home a healthier place to hunker down as we head into the cozy fall season! After all, a fresh, clean home makes the perfect backdrop for all those fall activities—whether it’s a movie night, baking session, or just curling up with a good book.

End-of-Summer AC Checkup

As summer winds down and the cooler weather starts to roll in, it’s easy to forget about your air conditioner. But before you switch it off for the season, it’s a good idea to give your AC a little TLC. Servicing it now can prevent headaches next summer and help it run efficiently for years to come. Here’s what to watch out for:

Strange noises: If your AC is making banging, rattling, or squealing noises, it’s not just settling down for a long winter’s nap—there could be something loose or worn out inside.

Weak or warm airflow: If your system isn’t blowing as strongly as it used to, it might be a sign of a clogged filter, a duct issue, or even a failing compressor. If vents are blowing out warm air, you may have a coolant leak.

Unexpected odors: Musty smells coming from your vents could indicate mold growth in your ducts or a dirty filter. A burning smell, on the other hand, might

signal electrical issues that need immediate attention. A sweet, chemical smell of ether or chloroform is a sure sign that you have a refrigerant leak and that it’s time to call a professional.

Leaking Water: While some condensation is normal, water pooling around your unit or leaking inside your home isn’t. It could mean a blocked drain line or a refrigerant leak, both of which should be checked out by a professional.

Taking care of these issues now will help your AC hibernate safely, so it’s ready to keep you cool when the heat returns next year!
