Heating Bill Shortcuts
We are in the grip of winter and that always means that the
heating bills can be expected to rise - it's a fact of being
Canadian. Here are four things you can do around the home to
ensure you're not paying ‘through the roof' for heating.
- Make sure that your attic has a proper amount of insulation. Your home's attic can be one of the biggest losses of heat in the home. Ensure that your attic is properly sealed with a vapour barrier and properly ventilated so built up moisture can
escape. - Have the filter on your furnace changed regularly. A clean
filter is going to ensure that your furnace is running
at peak performance. - If bathrooms or kitchens have separate exhaust fans -
make sure to turn them off when you're done with
them. If the fans are left on, they will suck heated
air out of the house. - If you can lower the thermostat by even a degree
you will save around 3% on your energy bill. If you
can turn down the thermostat at night or when you
leave the house, you won't be spending to heat the
house unnecessarily. One way to help do this is to
install a programmable thermostat.
There are many ways to help cut down on the rising
cost of heating. We hope these tips will help you.
